The AKC Canine Health Foundation and the Golden Retriever Foundation Jointly Fund Groundbreaking Canine Cancer Research Projects May 28, 2013

The AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF) and the Golden Retriever Foundation (GRF) embark on a new journey of finding answers to canine cancer by announcing the joint funding of nearly $1.5 million in canine cancer research. The Foundations have worked together to select two outstanding canine cancer research projects that will potentially make real progress in the fight against canine cancer. The research results are expected to significantly improve the understanding and diagnosis of canine cancer so that dogs live longer, healthier lives.

CHF Funds Trial for Novel Brain Tumor Medication January 24, 2013

The AKC Canine Health Foundation has awarded the University of Georgia (UGA) College of Veterinary Medicine and Emory University a $119,000 grant over three years to test a newly developed experimental drug to treat dogs with naturally-occurring brain tumors, following partial surgical removal of those tumors.

CHF Fights Bloat in Dogs January 15, 2013

The AKC Canine Health Foundation today launches a research and education initiative on bloat. The Initiative will sponsor research grants designed to better understand the cause and predisposition of bloat in dogs. Educational resources will also be made available to dog owners and to veterinarians.

2013 Clinician-Scientist Fellowships Awarded November 13, 2012

CHF has approved $1.7 million in canine health research funding for 2013. These grants cover a wide range of health concerns affecting all dogs and will provide better treatments, more accurate diagnosis, and a deeper understanding of the mechanisms that cause canine disease.

OFA and ACVO Establish New Eye Registry and Database September 4, 2012

The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) and the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) have announced the establishment of a new joint Eye Certification Registry (ECR) and Clinical Database for Ophthalmic Diagnoses (CDOD) effective November 1, 2012. Together, the ECR and CDOD will be important tools to monitor canine inherited eye conditions and reduce their incidence.
