Project Summary
Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), radiographs of the rear limbs under sedation and gait analysis of adult Labrador Retrievers was performed to document mechanical characteristics of the canine gait that may explain predisposition to cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) disease. Repartition between non-predisposed or predisposed to CCL disease group is based on the femoral anterversion angle and the tibial plateau slope measured on radiographs. Twenty-three Labrador Retrievers, between 12 and 130 month-old were recruited. Unfortunately, canine hip dysplasia was diagnosed on hip radiographs in two dogs which were excluded from the study and one dog was not able to completely perform the gait analysis section. Therefore, the gait analysis data were collected in twenty trotting dogs over ground and over a treadmill. The large quantity of data is still being analyzed to compare the mechanical characteristics of the canine gait between dogs pre-disposed to CCL and controls.Publication(s)
