For Immediate Release

Raleigh, NC (March 25, 2025) – The AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF), a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the health of all dogs, is excited to celebrate 30 years of dedication to improving the health and well-being of all dogs worldwide. Over the past three decades, CHF has proudly championed groundbreaking research, life-saving advancements, and transformative knowledge that continue to make a lasting impact on all dogs.

As the largest organization dedicated solely to canine health research, CHF continues to improve the lives of dogs everywhere – ensuring more years of companionship with the dogs we love.

CHF began 30 years ago with just 15 research grants. Now, after 30 years and more than $75 million in donations utilized for grants, there are nearly 150 CHF-funded research studies running across the globe.

These programs drive innovation, advance discoveries, and inspire researchers and dog lovers alike to push the boundaries of what’s possible in canine health. This commitment to canine health has been the driving force behind every success story CHF has been a part of over the past 30 years.

“Our mission is to fund research that has the potential to transform the lives of dogs,” said Dr. Stephanie Montgomery, chief executive officer, AKC Canine Health Foundation. “We are proud of the progress we’ve made, and with continued support, we look forward to continuing to shape the future of canine health.”

Built on the values of compassion, rigor, discovery, connection, and character, the Foundation has earned four consecutive 4-star Ratings from Charity Navigator for fiscal responsibility, a 2023 Candid Platinum Seal of Transparency, and the 2005 "Best in America" award from Independent Charities of America.

Looking to 2025, CHF launched the inaugural Canine Health Discovery Award, which seeks to recognize research advancements that address critical health challenges facing dogs and have the potential to encourage continued innovation and awareness in the field of veterinary medicine. With a strong legacy and an exciting future, the AKC Canine Health Foundation continues to work toward a world where all dogs lead healthy, vibrant lives.
