Sarvenaz Bagheri, DVM (CHF Grant 03034-E)
Mentor: Yael Merbl, BSc, DVM, DECVN; Washington State University

Dr. Bagheri earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at Kalamazoo College in Michigan and her veterinary degree at Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed a small animal rotating internship at the Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and a small animal neurology specialty internship at Washington State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital where she is now completing a combined neurology/neurosurgery residency.

As part of her residency training, Dr. Bagheri will complete a master’s degree. She will study the effects of free radical scavenger N-acetylcysteine as a novel treatment for dogs with spinal cord injury.

Dr. Bagheri hopes to provide an additional, affordable, non-invasive treatment option such as N-acetylcysteine for dogs with acute intervertebral disc herniations that can also speed the recovery for dogs with non-surgical spinal cord injuries.

This fellowship is generously sponsored by owners Carolyn and Gary Koch along with breeders Kristy and Kevin Ratliff in honor of “Rumble,” GCHP Hill Country's Let's Get Ready To Rumble. (www.akcchf.org/rumble)
