Project Summary

DNA samples were obtained from 3 affected Great Danes, 1 unaffected Labrador retriever and 1 unaffected Great Dane (Controls). We performed DNA sequencing and identified DNA variations that were only in affected dogs. We also evaluated 2 affected dogs sequenced by Dr. Leigh Anne Clark at Clemson. We found over 137,000 DNA variations that were only found in the affected dogs. We then prioritized the list of DNA variants to look at DNA samples only found in affected Great Danes and not in 35 other health dogs that were not Great Danes. This filtered the list to 180 variants. We are now looking very closely at these remaining variants in 20 affected Great Danes, 10 unaffected and 20 unaffected non Great Danes. We are not quite done and will continue to look at the variants.
