Nestlé Purina PetCare Continues Support for CHF

07/30/2012

The AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF) is proud to recognize Nestlé Purina PetCare Company as a 17 year supporter of canine health. Nestlé Purina PetCare Company will once again contribute over $1 million to the AKC Canine Health Foundation in 2012. Nestlé Purina’s commitment to CHF consists of corporate financial support, financial support through their Purina Parent Club Partnership Program, and a shared commitment to provide reliable information to pet owners worldwide. CHF is grateful to Nestlé Purina for their long-standing commitment to the CHF mission - helping dogs and their owners live longer, healthier lives.

“The commitment from Nestlé Purina PetCare has been significant in helping us achieve our mission,” said Terry Warren, CHF CEO. “Since 1997 Nestlé Purina has contributed more than $8.5 million dollars to the Foundation. These funds have furthered canine health research in fields such as oncology, cardiology, and endocrinology, and have helped us further our educational outreach providing reliable, cutting-edge information to pet owners worldwide,” said Warren.

In addition, Nestlé Purina sponsors the Purina Parent Club Partnership Program (PCPP). Purina Pro Club members who participate in the PPCP Program designate a breed of dog and submit weight circles (similar to proof of purchase) from qualifying Purina brand dog foods. An annual donation based on the value of the submitted weight circles is made to Donor Advised Funds (DAF) at the AKC Canine Health Foundation for canine health research. Since 2003 this program has raised more than $2 million for breed specific health research such as cataracts in northern breeds and heart disease in Norfolk Terriers.

Nestlé Purina also provides valuable human resources for the Foundation.  Dr. Janet Jackson, Vice President and Director of the Basic Research Group at Purina Research and Dr. Deb Greco, Senior Research Scientist at Purina, both serve on the Foundation’s grants committee. Steve Remspecher, Director of Marketing Breeder Enthusiast Group/Sporting for Purina has served on the AKC Canine Health Foundation Board of Directors since 2003. Nestlé Purina also sponsors the biennial National Parent Club Canine Health Conference hosted by the AKC Canine Health Foundation and in 2010 Nestlé Purina opened the Purina Events Center in Gray Summit, MO, directing that $70 from the sale of each brick paver on the Walk of Champions and Path of Honor be donated to CHF.

Steve Remspecher, Director of Marketing Breeder Enthusiast Group/Sporting for Nestlé Purina PetCare said, “We value our partnership with CHF and we are pleased to help this worthwhile organization further its mission to benefit the health of all dogs and their owners, and to provide reliable educational resources to pet owners throughout the world.”
