03440: Canine Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome Working Group

The Canine Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome Working Group is requesting financial
support for an in person meeting in Raleigh, NC to coincide with the Canine Health
Foundation’s 2025 National Parent Club Canine Health Conference. The support would
provide funding for travel to a 2-day meeting, hotels and meals. The meeting can be
held at NC State College of Veterinary Medicine. This international group is currently
working on a white paper on age-related cognitive decline in dogs with the goal of
starting to define standards by which cognitive decline and canine cognitive dysfunction
syndrome (CCDS) can be diagnosed. This meeting would allow them to cement the
work they have done and to plan future projects. The group aims to develop
collaborative projects to improve our understanding, diagnosis and treatment of CCDS.
Given the high prevalence of CCDS across all breeds of aged dog, the lack of
consensus on thresholds of disease and the current lack of effective treatments, this
meeting aligns well with the mission to improve the health of all dogs.
