This project sought to determine whether a blood borne marker of arrhythmias and ARVC in humans, BIN-1, is decreased in Boxer dogs with ARVC. This was not found to be the case in this small study, in which BIN-1 was found to be similar among groups of healthy dogs and those with cardiac disease. BIN-1 was found to increase with age, but was not related to any of the measures of heart disease or function studied. It is possible that the study was underpowered to demonstrate small differences among groups, but on the basis of our findings, even if differences exist between groups, there is likely to be extensive overlap between values, making it difficult to utlilize BIN-1 as a prognostic marker.
