Gingival Enlargement in Boxers

1 min read May 3, 2024

Gingival enlargement (GE), also known as gingival hyperplasia, is an overgrowth of the gums that can lead to tooth loss and mouth ulcers. Depending on the severity, it may require surgical treatment. The investigators are looking for genetic risk factors that contribute to GE in Boxers, who are disproportionately affected, as well as English bulldogs.

Our goal is to develop a genetic test that can be used to reduce the frequency of GE.

Blood samples are needed from Boxers or English bulldogs that have been diagnosed with GE or are 8 years or older with no personal history of GE. All shipping costs are covered for participation in this project.
