The Canine Health Discovery of the Year award is an annual esteemed award presented by the AKC Canine Health Foundation for the most significant research advancement that transforms the health and well-being of dogs. The award honors investigators who push the boundaries of research, delivering innovative solutions and celebrates groundbreaking research that is the pinnacle of excellence and encourages continued innovation and awareness in improving the lives of dogs.
Who is Eligible
To be eligible for the award, the research must demonstrate a substantial and significant advancement in canine health. The research should have been published, widely disseminated, or its importance in the field should have been made evident within the past calendar year and demonstrate a clear benefit to the health of dogs. The award is open to researchers and investigators conducting impactful work in canine health science. Whether you’re an established researcher or an emerging innovator, if your work drives meaningful advancements in canine health, we encourage you to apply.Â
Independent Investigators
Researchers from accredited institutions conducting studies that advance canine health and veterinary science.
Veterinary Professionals
Licensed veterinarians involved in clinical research or exploring innovative treatments to improve canine well-being.Â
Path to Recognition
The winner of the award is selected by a distinguished panel of invited experts comprised of veterinarians, researchers, and leaders in the field of canine health.
The selection committee reviews all eligible research based on criteria, which include scientific rigor, original thought, practical application, and potential to advance the field of canine medicine and have a sustainable impact on the lives of dogs.
Award Perks
The winner will receive a $10,000 prize and be honored at Canines and Cocktails, CHF’s annual gala celebrating innovation and excellence in canine health. Two finalists will each receive a $2,500 prize.
Research Funding
Receive a grant of up to $75,000 to support an ongoing or proposed research project.
