RALEIGH, NC (April 11, 2019) – The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation (CHF), a nonprofit organization committed to advancing the health of all dogs, is pleased to announce the election of the following officers for their Board of Directors on March 10, 2019.

Officers elected:

Chairman: J. Charles Garvin, MD, FACS

Dr. Garvin continues as Chairman of the CHF Board of Directors. He also serves on CHF’s Scientific Review Committee and as a member of the American Kennel Club Board of Directors. A Dalmatian breeder and judge, Dr. Garvin brings extensive experience and leadership to this role.

Vice Chairman: Sue Copeland

Ms. Copeland is the newly elected Vice Chairman. An accomplished writer and editor of dog and horse-enthusiast publications and books, Ms. Copeland provides valuable mentorship to help CHF achieve its communications goals. She owns the top winning Greater Swiss Mountain Dog in breed history.

Treasurer: Cindy Vogels

Ms. Vogels continues as Treasurer of the CHF Board of Directors. She has bred champion Soft Coated Wheaten, Kerry Blue, Norfolk and Welsh Terriers, Brittany Spaniels, and Greyhounds. Amidst her busy conformation judging career, she is a long-time supporter of CHF, serving on its Board of Directors and Scientific Review Committee for many years.

Secretary: Ann Viklund

Ms. Viklund continues as Secretary of the CHF Board of Directors. Following a prosperous career with Thoroughbred and Standardbred horses, she now breeds Labrador Retrievers and Norwich Terriers. Currently employed as Director of Conformation at Nestlé Purina PetCare Company, Ms. Viklund contributes a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to CHF.

“The CHF Staff and Board of Directors thank Dr. Garvin, Ms. Copeland, Ms. Vogels, and Ms. Viklund for their service and dedication to our mission. Their leadership and guidance for the work carried out by CHF and its funded investigators will help improve the health of all dogs and their people,” said Dr. Diane Brown, CHF Chief Executive Officer.
