Nolan Chalifoux, DVM (CHF Grant 03154-E)
Mentor: Erica Reineke, VMD, DACVECC; University of Pennsylvania
Dr. Chalifoux earned his veterinary degree at Western College of Veterinary Medicine and completed a small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship at the University of Pennsylvania College of Veterinary Medicine. He is currently a small animal emergency and critical care resident at the University of Pennsylvania Ryan Veterinary Hospital and a Master of Science and Translational Research candidate at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Dr. Chalifoux’s research interests include incorporating existing veterinary extracorporeal therapies (those that use advanced technologies to filter the blood and remove harmful substances from the body) with novel treatments such as cardiopulmonary bypass and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). His fellowship research will focus on the efficacy of two extracorporeal treatments, hemoperfusion and hemodialysis, in the emergency treatment of baclofen (an anti-spasticity and muscle relaxant medication) toxicity in dogs.
Dr. Chalifoux plans to pursue clinical and translational research to benefit veterinary and human patients.
This fellowship is generously sponsored by owners Carolyn and Gary Koch along with breeders Kristy and Kevin Ratliff in honor of “Rumble,” GCHP Hill Country's Let's Get Ready To Rumble. (www.akcchf.org/rumble)
