Dr. Alison Starr received her Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University in Animal and Veterinary Sciences and earned a PhD in genetics from Texas A&M University. Dr. Starr joined the Canine Genetics Laboratory in the College of Veterinary Medicine where she studied a developmental disease in the Havanese dog breed and induced atherosclerosis in a mixed-breed dog. Currently a Research Assistant Professor at Clemson University, Dr. Starr's laboratory is part of the Clemson Canine Genetics Research group, which studies hereditary diseases in the domestic dog. Her specific research interests include the development of genetic tests, orthopedic disorders (Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease, hypertrophic osteodystrophy) and structural birth defects such as cleft lip-palate and spina bifida.
You can make contributions to support the specific research grants that match your interests or greatest health concern.
Your help is needed with canine health research. DNA and tissue samples are needed from healthy dogs and dogs affected by certain diseases.
