Abstract
Primary Lens Luxations (PLLs) are painful and blinding ocular conditions recessively inherited in a range of terrier and other dog breeds. In this project, we will 1) use linkage disequilibrium mapping to establish the genetic location of the mutation causing PLL in Miniature Bull Terriers and Lancashire Heelers; 2) begin cloning candidate genes for causation of PLL from this region; 3) screen these genes for mutations in PLL dogs of various terrier breeds. Ultimately, our aim is to produce one or more DNA-based tests for PLL in terrier breeds.
