Research Program Area Sponsorship

The AKC Canine Health Foundation appreciates donations of any amount.  However, individuals and clubs who are able to support research at higher levels may wish to become Research Sponsors.

All research grants are supported through a Research Program Area. This allows CHF to create depth in our capacity to fund research in areas of importance to our donors, expand our grant portfolio in a substantial way, and focus on funding research in areas of importance to your breed and organization.

By supporting a grant within a Research Program Area, your contribution will go towards research in the specific area of your designation and allow for even more studies to be funded in the future.

Minimum sponsorship level: $2,500

Benefits of Sponsorship:

  • Recognition on our website and in publications
  • Updates and final progress reports for all grants within the program area

Does the Foundation "match" grant sponsorships?

No, the AKC Canine Health Foundation does not match contributions to grants.  We do even better!

CHF grant funding policies remain unchanged; we have always made an effort to raise the full amount of each approved grant from sponsorships.  While historically the word “match” has been used, this word does not actually fit our policy.

We follow a “cooperative funding” model, whereby a number of organizations, individuals and CHF come together to fund a single grant.  For example, if CHF funds a grant of $100,000, we might ask many clubs to sponsor the project at $2,500.  If we receive 10 sponsors for a total of $25,000, the remaining $75,000 comes from CHF.  Therefore, it is truly cooperative funding.  CHF’s contribution far exceeds the implied 1:1 ratio of matching. For each club’s contribution of $2,500, the club is receiving cooperative funding in the amount of $97,500.  It is through this model of cooperative funding that CHF has funded more than $60 million in research to help prevent, treat and cure canine disease.
