Connie Vanacore serves on the Grants Committee of the AKC Canine Health Foundation. She was born and raised in New York City and is a graduate of Barnard College. She worked in the advertising business until marriage, family and the acquisition of dogs and cats ended that career. She began writing for a local newspaper on the subject of dogs which led to a position as Associate Editor of the AKC Gazette. Connie is the author of seven books about purebred dogs and a veterinary columnist for the most widely read news magazine about dogs.
She is the founder and Chairperson of the Irish Setter Club of America Foundation. Connie has also served as President of the Irish Setter Club of America and the Eastern Irish Setter Association. She has been a Delegate to the American Kennel Club since 1983 and served two terms as Chairperson of the Delegates Canine Health Committee. Connie and her husband, Fred, have bred and shown Irish Setters, English Cocker Spaniels and one Newfoundland since 1956.
